(no subject)

Betty Brown, prominent Republican lawmaker from beautiful Texas, says this:

“Rather than everyone here having to learn Chinese — I understand it’s a rather difficult language — do you think that it would behoove you and your citizens to adopt a name that we could deal with more readily here?” Brown said.

Brown later told [Organization of Chinese Americans representative Ramey] Ko: “Can’t you see that this is something that would make it a lot easier for you and the people who are poll workers if you could adopt a name just for identification purposes that’s easier for Americans to deal with?”

(Emphasis mine.)

Betty Brown has so far resisted all calls for apology.

Suicide Club

In conjunction with the suspense there's some quite poetic parts which touches on the everlasting question: if you can't find a reason behind death, can you really find any reason to live? In this hi-tech, constant mass communication world maybe a lot of us are spending our time trying to escape from such profound questions by engaging in mindless distractions & superficial relations, never contemplating that these actions might be just as empty & worthless as a non-existence.

Sleep position gives personality clue

  • The Foetus: Those who curl up in the foetus position are described as tough on the outside but sensitive at heart. They may be shy when they first meet somebody, but soon relax.

This is the most common sleeping position, adopted by 41% of the 1,000 people who took part in the survey. More than twice as many women as men tend to adopt this position.

  • Log (15%): Lying on your side with both arms down by your side. These sleepers are easy going, social people who like being part of the in-crowd, and who are trusting of strangers. However, they may be gullible.

  • The yearner (13%): People who sleep on their side with both arms out in front are said to have an open nature, but can be suspicious, cynical. They are slow to make up their minds, but once they have taken a decision, they are unlikely ever to change it.

  • Soldier (8%): Lying on your back with both arms pinned to your sides. People who sleep in this position are generally quiet and reserved. They don't like a fuss, but set themselves and others high standards.

  • Freefall (7%): Lying on your front with your hands around the pillow, and your head turned to one side. Often gregarious and brash people, but can be nervy and thin-skinned underneath, and don't like criticism, or extreme situations.

  • Starfish (5%): Lying on your back with both arms up around the pillow. These sleepers make good friends because they are always ready to listen to others, and offer help when needed. They generally don't like to be the centre of attention.

The remainder of those in the poll said the position they fell asleep varied or did not know.

    Health effect

Professor Idzikowski also examined the effect of various sleeping positions on health.

He concluded that the freefall position was good for digestion, while the starfish and soldier positions were more likely to lead to snoring and a bad night's sleep.

Professor Idzikowski said: "Lying down flat means that stomach contents can more readily be worked back up into the mouth, while those who lie on their back may end up snoring and breathing less well during the night.

"Both these postures may not necessarily awaken the sleeper but could cause a less refreshing night's sleep."

The research also found that most people are unlikely to change their sleeping position. Just 5% said they sleep in a different position every night.

    Duvet position

Professor Idzikowski also found that one arm or leg sticking out of the duvet is Britain's most common position, followed by both feet poking out the end.

One in ten people like to cover themselves entirely with the duvet.

When I lost my professor... I thought I couldn't  move forward anymore. That despair... But that's jsut like Sadako [in the well]. Climb up and fall, that repetition. The dead are inside that "ring of time" from which they can never escape. Only those that stay inside the ring of time are dead...

crazy fan

I'm not sure if this should go, so I'm putting it up in general.

One day, my dad came to our Canadian home from Korea (he lives in Korea)
and we were talking... he mentioned that one of his friends' sons have become a celeb.
I wasn't really interested, I mean, a its a guy, right? But my lil sister was jumping up and down.
"Who? Who is he?" she yelled, and my dad told her, "Choi... Choi Shi... hes in some big ass boy band..."

My sister has been the biggest fan of Choi Shi Won (did I get that right? the manly dude from Super Junior?) ever since Super Junior came out.

So my sister goes insane, and my dad tells her that if she gets into this program in university
(which I was in) then he will take her back to Korea and get her to meet him.

So time passes, she gets into my program with exceptional achievement
(our program in unique in Canada cuz it has entrance exam... and she was one of top 10 or something out of 1500+ people who wrote the exam)
so she goes to Korea, and my dad is like "I'll call my friend up and set up a time and date for you to meet him."
Guess what my sister says? She doesn't want to meet him!

Her answer was like this:
"This is going to be my first time meeting him, and I want to leave a good first impression. However, at the moment I am an ugly little girl. After I get a good job and make lots of money, I'll get plastic surgery and then meet him. That way, I can leave a great first impression as a beautiful and successful woman."

(I read about Lee Sung Gi concert and was gonna get her a ticket so she can go see it, and she said exactly the same thing: "I wanna leave a good first impression blah blah blah")

And I was like OMGWTFBBQ

girls... too complicated...

p.s. I didn't know it was so easy to see celebs in Korea lol... I worked in Korea this summer and the office was like 2 min walk from KBS building... seeing celebs play basketball in the park, have guerilla concerts in front of our office, see drama being shot in front of our office building... (a movie was shot in our office too, a movie called Some like it Hot or something)

Korea needs to change

Koreans ought to stop racism and death punishment. Not to mention all the suicides happening lately.

According to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, South Korea has the highest suicide rate of any of its 30 members - which are almost all developed countries.

It's not over yet

I'm telling myself it's soon to be over. But after four years of doing this, it starts to feel like a lie.

Those who are aware of my problems tell me I must remember this will be over someday. And I do believe them, I know it will. But the time until then is awfully painful and feels neverending.

Curing my loneliness

I love watching kdramas, not only because they’re funny and romantic, they also make me forget about my problems – whatever they may be. I’m often feeling low afterwards though. The characters in the dramas have troubles and sorrows, but in the end they’ll live happily ever after. And they have each other. I have good friends, a nice family and from time to another a caring boyfriend, yet the dramas make me feel lonely. I’m left alone, while they keep on going together. As if I were part of their lives and they at some point shut me out. Don’t misunderstand, I’m not thinking of the characters and I as reality. It’s more a way of explaining and reflecting about how I feel afterwards. Yes, even during the break from one episode to another. I’m suddenly left alone and it reminds me painfully of how lonely I am. This loneliness has been with me from before I started watching dramas, and they became like medication to me. Only, my medication won’t cure me in the long run.

My Korean name

Koreans keep asking me what my Korean name would be. I tell them I prefer my original name.

Maybe it would've been OhYooRin 오유린

Kdramas

Kdramas are a way of life. I think they’re meant to be a side-thing where you just go about your school or work or whatever and when you have free time watch a couple kdramas. But thats not how it works out. Once you get hooked you can’t stop. I need to power-up with an episode if I’m going to get any studying done afterwards. And of course every once in a while there comes along one amazing kdrama that I can’t stop watching. If its already played in Korea, I can do a marathon. If its still going, once an episode is out that means everything else is put on hold.
